My Mom died from Alzheimer’s and since that time I have been active in my support of the Alzheimer’s Association. I never thought I would need to actually use the organization’s services myself. On August 24, 2019 I walked in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Royal Oak, MI ( I lived in Michigan all my life, and recently moved to Florida). To date, I have raised almost $9K mostly through social media. I was so blessed to have so many friends and family join me in the walk and show their support. It was a very touching day.
I was selected to participate in the opening ceremony as the person holding the blue flower, which represents people who have been diagnosed with the disease. Two local TV personalities read my story on stage, and there was not a dry eye in the house, including me. There was thousands of people in attendance. All of them were there to support a loved one, hoping for a cure, and showing tremendous support. I felt so much love this day…..it was truly incredible. I am committed to this fight, and I am going to be a very visible, and vocal advocate for finding a cure, in my lifetime. I AM going to be the first Alzheimer’s SURVIVOR.
